Transforming Goat Skin Into Art.
In 1987, I was introduced to leather during my then Art and Technology class at school in the Caribbean Island of Jamaica. I remember my art teacher giving us a piece of leather and saying to us that we should develop a design that could be used to create a belt or a bag or even a key ring, so I drew a picture and asked whether I could shade it, I was told that it couldn't be done so, I decided that I would go home and experiment with my design.
Little did I knew then that this was the begining of a journey which saw me exploring, developing and promoting a different kind of thinking in how leather could be seen as a medium for artist to utilize and manipulated and be respected as a true surface as canvas is for visual expression of art rather than craft and then the rest as they say was history.
